Did you have time?
Hilary Butler - Saturday, April 04, 2009
The Gardasil consent form was interesting wasn’t it! Did you find the time to read the fine print? So many fascinating ironies in this little exercise, which may well have “escaped” most people’s notice. The first and most interesting is on the back on page 8, where it says, “..only authorised health professionals can see, use or change the information on the consent form, the School-Based Vacc...
It takes three
Hilary Butler - Thursday, April 02, 2009
Shall we analyse it? Underlined, are … to me … the key fishhooks:
Title. “One thing you can protect them from” Note the word CAN.
Implied message: “We are calling YOU, and if you love your daughter, you will protect them…..”
_______
First sentence. “You can’t protect them from everything, but you can help protect them from cervical cancer.” Note the addition of the word HELP, which modifi...
When information goes "missing"!
Hilary Butler - Thursday, April 02, 2009
On 1st April, Dan Olmsted, the bane of vaccine "defenders", pointed out on Age of Autism that the files of Kanner's original autism cases from Johns Hopkins Hospital, had grown legs and disappeared. He expressed astonishment that such a thing could happen, and discussed the implications of crucial missing information. The problem that he seems to be unaware of, is that this is nothing new. I've...
No, the vaccine didn't do it!!!
Hilary Butler - Tuesday, March 24, 2009
A study in India, comparing a new Prevnar vaccine with the Prevenar just introduced into New Zealand, shows just how far the medical profession has it's head in the darkest, murkiest places possible. The new multi-strain vaccine was compared with a "placebo" which was the Prevenar vaccine. A baby with an underlying heart condition, in the "placebo" arm, died after the vaccine. Perhaps guessing ...
Don't come crying!
Hilary Butler - Monday, March 02, 2009
One of the societal tools used against those who chose not to vaccinate is the “don’t come crying” line.
This is best exemplified by Dunedin’s Dr Paul Trotman in his Sunday Star Times column (in the days when he was just ‘Dr Paul’ and no-one knew who he was) in which he said:
The Sunday Star Times printed a sanitised version of my reply, but naturally, I prefer the one I sent direct to ...
"One Less" selective thinking
Hilary Butler - Saturday, February 28, 2009
In the Escape section of Sunday Star Times, March 1, 2009, journalist Karen Tay, who admits to viewing beauty and skincare products as sacred miracle potions, was researching their true cost to her body, and the environment. “While researching this story, I learnt many unpleasant truths about my beauty products…”
She discovered that some cosmetics claiming to be natural were not necessarily so...
What's in a word?
Hilary Butler - Saturday, February 28, 2009
The title of our first book came at 1.30 a.m in the morning. I’d been watching a recorded TV programme on the MenZB showing a nurse about to jab a child. She said, “little prick…” The child exploded vocally out of the blocks, and was inconsolable. I thought back to my last phlebotomist’s visit, when the ubiquitous “just a little prick” came out. And the day when she speared a twisted vein and t...
Tamiflu garage sale anyone?
Hilary Butler - Thursday, January 08, 2009
You remember all the paranoia about that pandemic cash-cow called bird flu? You remember that the New Zealand humoured whatsisname... Rumsfeld?? ... who profits gazillions from the company that makes Tamiflu, by buying a few million dollars worth of a useless drug, which wasn't necessary, and is now well past it's use-by date? Well, don't hold your breath, about either the value of Tamiflu, o...
Lucy's Miracle
Hilary Butler - Monday, January 05, 2009
On January 4th, The Sunday Star Times (1.9 mb pdf) published an article about Lucy Law's miraculous recovery from the combination of leukaemia and an aspergillosis fungal infection in her lungs.
The story is interesting on two levels.
First, that according to her father, he has refound his faith.
Second, the miracle itself.
My take on the miracle though, will possibly be a little different ...
Pinnochio's nose and Peter Flegg
Hilary Butler - Saturday, November 29, 2008
As the UK medical gestapo proclaim 1,000 measles cases a national disaster, and go after parents who have refused to vaccinate their children against measles, there is an interesting "discussion" at the BMJ website. Peter Flegg, an infectious disease specialist has made some extraordinary claims. That's nothing new. He's done that at the BMJ for years. For those who want are keenly following th...
Letter to the Bunker
Hilary Butler - Tuesday, November 25, 2008
Such is life.
I couldn't answer the letter in November's Health Options fully, and my reply won't be published until February.
For those chafing at the bit to know what I would say, you will find it here:
Big Brother to police hospital handwashing?
Hilary Butler - Monday, November 24, 2008
Dr Robert Wachter runs a blog which is well worth adding to your regular reading list. His Bio shows that he’s well qualified to talk about many things, and does so with a degree of candidness you don’t see in this country. A recent blog which interested me was the possibility of putting cameras into hospitals to try to raise the inadequate hand washing amongst staff. It would appear that since...
Commensal Bacteria, probiotics and the mighty dollar
Hilary Butler - Thursday, November 13, 2008
For decades, traditional medical systems, as well as some parts of today's reductionist medical system, have used, suggested and prescribed probiotics, even though there aren't too many doctors who know exactly what's in yoghurt, and even fewer who think to tell people to eat it to recolonise their guts after napalming themselves with antibiotics.
For years, I've collected huge amounts of lite...
5 of 5: What was the real 19th century grim reaper?
Hilary Butler - Wednesday, November 12, 2008
The largest cause of death of mothers and babies in my family tree was, in the 19th century, which eclipses all causes from anything else, was Puerperal Fever.
Puerperal Fever became an epidemic after male midwives, later-to-be-called obstetricians, ran the lay women midwives out of town, and took over. These men, new to this natural function of life didn’t have the sense to know about someth...
4 of 5: My Grandmother's world in my head
Hilary Butler - Tuesday, November 11, 2008
So you think about the really bad days in the 19th century and decide to look at your family tree. Looking at the death causation in your 5 century old family tree, you start to wonder how all of your ancestors survived in those REALLY bad old days when diphtheria, polio, measles, mumps, whooping cough and the plague stalked the earth, and they didn’t have vaccines for most of those things.
...
3 of 5: Another empty fallacy
Hilary Butler - Monday, November 10, 2008
1) Given that there is over a 90% vaccination rate for the 6 weeks to 5 months vaccines in this country, wouldn’t you think that all these vaccines create the highly touted herd immunity they are purported to do, so why will your baby drop dead?
Either these vaccines have worked ….according to the medical profession’s logic…., and there is herd immunity, or they haven’t worked, and if you tak...
2 of 5: Hollow Timbrels of "expert"-generated feardom
Hilary Butler - Sunday, November 09, 2008
You’ve just been told that:
You can’t take your baby out into that big bad world until the first shots have been given.
Do you now believe that the minute the two needles containing 13 vaccines have been removed from your child, you can now spend the day in Parnell in crowded cafes catching up with all your mates?
1) What sort of magic is this, that says that he/she is now immunologically in...
1 of 5 Whose world is in your head?
Hilary Butler - Saturday, November 08, 2008
Have you ever been told by a medical professional looking at your five week old baby, that you can’t take you baby out into that big bad world until the first shots have been given, because otherwise your child might die?
A new 2008 comment is the admonition that Prevnar is vital, because “it’s such a serious disease.”
So serious, that, as page 16 of this powerpoint shows, “Only a Handful of...
Whooping cough lies, ad infinitum
Hilary Butler - Tuesday, October 28, 2008
Whenever whooping cough breaks out in Australia, the medical profession indulge in their usual lies about why they are having (*yawn*) yet another whooping cough outbreak. This year is no exception except the lies have a little extra bribery and fearmongering twisted into the foment provided to the media.
Yesterday's lie came from Dr Mitchell Smith, New South Wales Health Department mouthpiece...
